Rama and Sita photo credits |
My first idea for a storybook would be a Ramayana. For this project I would profile the different animals of the Ramayana. I would tell about their part in the Ramayana story as well as some actual facts about them like the foods they eat and what kind of climate they live in. I could cover the squirrels, the monkey Hanuman, and so on. I would get to use interesting images and learn more about their part in the Ramayana as well as facts about the animals. A resource I could use would be this video about the squirrels of Ramayana.
Idea 2: Tour the Ramayana
This idea would be to focus on the geography of the Ramayana as a tour guide. I could tell stories about different locations in the Ramayana and share real and mythological facts about these sites. As a tour guide I would also tell them about the climate, local food, and how they should dress for the trip. I would be able to feature maps as well is images of nature and places to sight see. A resource I could use would be this article from the New York Times.
Idea 3: Women of the Epics
My idea for the Women of the Epics theme would be to rework the story of the Ramayana to be entirely about women. Sita would replace Rama, and instead of a man who takes Sita captive, it could be a jealous sister or something of the like. A resource I could use would be this post from Nina Paley.
Idea 4: The Gods of India
This idea would be to profile some of the gods of the epics like they do on Humans of New York. It would include a photo of the God and a quote by them and tell a little of their back story. I would write a story from their perspective. I think it would be fun to gods and goddesses that I have not heard about before (Kamadhenu, Chhinnamasta, Dyaus Pita, Kapardi all sound interesting from Wikipedia) A good resource would be to start on Wikipedia to get a better grasp on the gods and their history and story.
