Since class doesn't officially start till the 16th, I'm feeling pretty prepared for this course! I really appreciate the ability to work on your own time schedule that this course offers and I am especially thankful that we can finish the course early if we so choose to do so.
I've chose to get to work over break because I know that this last semester will be a crazy one. I will be working on my capstone project, looking for jobs and trying to spend time with friends I've made here at OU as it is our last time all together! I'm also going to Spain a week after graduation, so I'll be working a lot this semester to save money for the trip. My boyfriend and I are going to Madrid, Barcelona and Toledo on an art tour. It will be his first time abroad so we are both really excited. Counting down the days to the trip is what is motivating me at the moment.
I also had a moment this afternoon where some information from the course connected to something else in my life. I was listening to a podcast about unknown history facts and they mentioned the Secret Order of the Double Sunrise, a plane route from Australia to Sri Lanka, THE LONG WAY! I guess during World War II, the Australians needed a way to get around Singapore when it fell to Japan, so they would fly at night over Japan and around the globe to what was then Ceylon, which is modern day Sri Lanka. The way it connected to this course was that the Goblin City story from the readings was set in Ceylon! I had never even heard about how Sri Lanka was called Ceylon (until 1972) until this afternoon and somehow I managed to hear about it twice in one day.

Learning about the geography of south Asia is definitely a bonus of this class, Blake! And here's another fun geography item: the word "serendipity" in English is also from the island that is now Sri Lanka; details here: SERENDIPITY
ReplyDeleteBlake, I have also been working ahead, and I think that is the best thing about this course! I love that we can focus on this class before getting flooded with due dates and assignments next week. Your discovery and connection you made is cool! It is often comforting and intriguing when things we are learning appear in our daily lives. Also, I hope that you have the best time studying abroad!
ReplyDeleteHi Blake! It’s so admirable how much work you have done for the class already! I was amazed to see that you have already done your week 2 and 3 stories and I have barely done my introduction. That is so cool that you are going on an art tour after graduation, that sounds so fun! I wish you lots of luck on applying for jobs!
