Is there anything as great as marking something off your to do list? photo credits: pixabay |
The Psychology of Checklists jumped out to me, because as I mentioned in my previous post, I LOVE to cross things off of a to do list. In fact, I almost worded it in the exact same way as the author of this article. I guess us Type A personalities are easy to pinpoint. In this article, Marchese talks about why most of us like to check things off a list and why it is important to set goals that are S.M.A.R.T (Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Realistic, Time-bound). Marchese also tells about Trello, an application that can be used for group checklists. This semester I am in advertising campaigns, which is the capstone for advertising majors. It is an entire semester long group project, so I will 100% suggest using this to my group! It seems really helpful.
The second article, 11 Ways Unsuccessful People Mismanage Their Time, also had some good tips for how to stay focused and get the job done, but to also relax and schedule time for fun in order to not burn out. I think that is a great tip. While people that don't procrastinate on things like work or studying, they may be sacrificing their fun time to relax and do things like see a movie or grab dinner with a friend, so I will keep that in mind this semester. I have been guilty of doing too much work and sacrificing my fun time, but I also have been guilty of scheduling too much time with friends and forgetting to study. Since I am an avid user of a planner, I will make sure to schedule time for both this semester.
I have heard such good things about Trello! And also about Slack. Since I work mostly on my own (each online course instructor designs courses on their own, independently... a freedom that I really appreciate!), I haven't used Slack or Trello, but they both sound very appealing to me. I'm also a big fan of Google Docs which can be really useful for group work, collaborative writing, etc. :-)
ReplyDeleteI will have to look into Slack. I've only used Google Docs in the past, but I am open to new programs.
