Reading Notes: PDE Ramayana, Section D

Since Rama and Sita are husband and wife and also the main characters of the Ramayana, I wanted to try to focus on them my trying character charting for this week's reading notes. Here are some ways that Sita and Rama are similar to one another.

Devoted
Both Rama and Sita are very devoted people. They are devoted to each other, but also to their duties in life. One way that Rama exhibits this is by allowing himself to be exiled as a sign of devotion to his father and his duty in life. He is also devoted to getting Sita back.

Sita is a devoted wife in that she never gives in to Ravana's wish to sleep with her. She loves her husband and promises to stay true to him even though she has no idea if or when she will be saved. This is also true about how she promises to go through a trial by fire to prove her faithfulness.

Removed from their homes
Rama is exiled into the woods for 14 years with only his brother. He cannot go into a city and he must live among nature. This is a parallel to the way that Sita was taken away from Rama. She is held captive and lives in the woods herself.

Royalty
Sita and Rama are both of royal decent, this is probably why they work together so well, because they understand each other's lifestyles
