Hanuman

Since  I read about Hanuman in a lot of people's stories and project this week, I wanted to learn a little more about him. One thing that I would was really cool is that he has many festivals dedicated to him all over the world. The Wikipedia article also mentioned his mermaid lover, and I wanted to learn more about mermaids, so I went there next!

Mermaid

This was a really in debt Wikipedia article! I really enjoyed reading about the reported sightings and was stunned to find that there have been reported sightings in recent years! One famous one was in Israel in 2009 and in Zimbabwe in 2013. The article also talked about ama, which have been romanticized as mermaids in Japan.

Ama

Ama are Japanese pearl divers. The majority of them are women and they have been in action for over 2,000 years. I had never heard of these women before, but they are in pop culture. In 1958, a documentary about them won an Oscar and one of James Bond's girls was an ama.

James Bond

James Bond was created in 1953 by Ian Fleming. One thing I was surprised to learn is that in 1954, Fleming was paid $1,000 by CBS to convert this character into a TV series. In today's money that is only $9,113. Fleming was paid so little for what became a major franchise that is store producing movies today.
