For this extra credit challenge I chose to watch the short film,
Alike. The video was only 8 minutes long, but it managed to pack a lot of lessons into that short amount of time! The video is about a father and son who, while once are full of happiness and creativity, begin to sacrifice that to fit the mold of a society that is serious and unoriginal. Eventually, they realize this and correct their mistakes by allowing creativity into their everyday lives. I think that allowing yourself to be creative is really important to one's mental health as well as allowing yourself to think outside of the box. One part of the video that I was not expecting to see was the effect that this "plain" life has on children. It can stifle their passion for learning and take away special traits that are unique to them. Since my major is a pretty creative one, I feel confident that I am exercising that part of my brain everyday, but I would like to do it more outside the academic setting. As I said in a previous post, I love to color, so that is one way that I can be creative outside class. I think another way is creating playlists for friends and family. Over the summer, my dad and I would send 3 songs a day to each other to listen to (my dad is a music buff). I think we need to get back into this habit.
