Storybook Favorites

For Indian Epics we were asked to find three storybook projects from former students so that we could gain an understanding of the assignment this semester as well as get inspired for our own. Here are three of my favorites.

Post Secret Sanskrit

This storybook is an Indian Epics take on the popular blog Post Secret, where people from all over the world mail in their secrets on postcards. I love the Post Secret blog, so I thought that this was a really creative take on that.

Unlike the Post Secret blog, this project responds to the post cards with stories and advice and is able to work in the class material easily.

The blog layout was easy to use and the black background made it easy to read and see the images. I really liked this one!

Afterlife Anger Management

Afterlife Anger Management is a storybook that is a reinterpretation of Dr. Phil. I have always enjoyed watching Dr. Phil so this storybook project jumped out at me.

I found the writing to be creative, engaging and funny. I hope I am able to write like this in my project for this course.

One thing I was not keen on in this storybook project was the lack of images. They were few and far between, and when there were images, they were small and hard to see. In my project I hope to include a lot of photos.

Geography of Ramayana

The Geography of Ramayana storybook project positions itself as a high school geography class where the student have just read Ramayana and are doing projects to explain and interpret the geography of the locations called about in it.

This storybook project interested me because I enjoy geography and love looking at maps and images of nature. This project did not disappoint in that because their were lots of great images of maps as well as the actual locations being talked about.

I feel like a lot of effort was put into this one.

  1. Oh, you really are working ahead, Blake: fantastic! And I am glad Canvas is behaving. You picked three really different kinds of projects here, which is nice to see: the course is about the epics of India, but that can be a gateway to all kinds of different writing experiments. The Geography project is one from last semester and he did work really hard on each page: that student wants to be a social studies teacher, so it was an experiment for him in just thinking about what that could mean for students, beyond just memorizing maps and place names. I think it turned out great!

    1. Yes, I am trying to get some good work done before the chaos of the semester begins! That is a perfect project for someone hoping to teach social studies. I hope I can come up with an idea that will intersect with my interests as well.
