Wikipedia Trail: From Ocean of Milk to John S. McCain, Jr.

For this Wikipedia trail, I wanted to focus on the Ocean of Milk that was mentioned in the Ramayana readings.

I learned that another name for the Ocean of Milk is Kshir Sagar. Kshir Sagar is a part of Hindu cosmology. It is even depicted at Angkor War, my next search.

Angkor Wat is THE largest religious monument in the world. It is located in Cambodia and was built as a Hindu temple to honor Vishnu, but it was later converted to a Buddhist temple. It includes lots of reliefs of scenes from the Ramayana and the Mahabharata. It is protected by UNESCO.

Cambodian Civil War

Since Angkor Wat is in Cambodia, it led me to the Wikipedia post about the Cambodian Civil War. The Cambodian Civil War was an 8 year war that was waged by many parties. The Khmer Rouge, a communist group, was fighting with the Viet Cong and North Vietnam against the Kingdom of Cambodia, the Khmer Republic, the United States and South Vietnam. The Cambodian Civil War page led me to John S. McCain Jr.'s page next, as he was a Navy admiral during the war.

John S. McCain Jr. is Senator John McCain's father. John S. McCain Jr. served in the Cambodian Civil War and was also the Commander-In-Chief for the Pacific Command during the Vietnam War. This meant he was in charge of all U.S. forces in Vietnam from 1968 to 1972.
